Hello Porter’s family. My name is Mariela Vazquez and I’m so excited to share this new school year with you all as Head of Diversity. Collectively, we have had a transformational year thus far, and we carry that within all of us very differently.
In the face of a global pandemic, a much anticipated U.S. Presidential election, escalating racial tension, staggering inequality, inflammatory and divisive rhetoric, and violence around the globe, it is more important than ever that we focus in on one particular element of our mission – educating young women to become informed.
The GSS is free to students and meets on the following Saturdays: 10/17, 10/24, 10/31 and post election on 11/7. Speakers will include experts in journalism, foreign correspondence, race and gender studies, social change and innovators exploring a new electoral system. There will also be a Winter and Spring GSS, topics to be released soon!
